After months of cold, rain, and dryer than normal air, spring is finally on the horizon. Winter is on it’s way out, hopefully taking with it winter blues and dry, itchy skin. And while we’ve spent the first part of the year layering serums, balms, and oils, warmer air, and increased humidity mean our skin is about to be in for a shock. How, then, do we prep the face for sunnier days ahead?

To start, trading your heavy night cream for something a little lighter is key. We recommend a water-based formula, such as Theraderm Peptide Hydrator, when the weather warms up. Our skin tends to hold more water in the spring and summer, so you won’t need as much hydration.

The next step in the glow game is exfoliation. While a lot of people think exfoliation needs to happen on wet skin, we actually need to exfoliate when our skin is extra dry. Just be sure you are sloughing off dead skin and unblocking pores with a gentle exfoliating gel rather than with harsh scrubs to keep skin healthy. Theraderm Nupeel Natural Enzyme Peel is a gentle exfoliator that relies on papaya enzymes rather than harsh abrasives to exfoliate skin.

Quite possibly the most important piece of the puzzle is spring-cleaning.Toss anything more than six months old. Old products can host a buildup of bacteria, leading to clogged pores and dull skin. Makeup brushes, too, are often overlooked and can store unwanted germs and viruses. Washing brushes at least once a week with a gentle soap and drying them with a blow-dryer is an easy way to keep them clean and bacteria-free. Sometimes it’s the simple things that have the most impact on the overall health of your skin.

Last but not least, make sure you are wearing a sunscreen. And while this isn’t a transition (or it shouldn’t be!) we always like to remind you that the best anti-aging secret is protecting your skin from UV damage! Theraderm Platinum Protection Facial Sunscreen with SPF 43 and broad-spectrum protection is perfect for summer skin. It is oil-free allowing it to go flawlessly under your makeup. Speaking of makeup, if you aren't too keen on wearing foundation during the warmer months, Theraderm Tinted Hydrating Complex with UVA/UVB protection and an anti-aging peptide, may be just what you need!
