I don’t know about you, but I will confess to shaving my legs nearly every day.  I cannot stand the feeling of stubble on my legs – especially during the summer.  When the temperatures get a little cooler, I can sometimes stretch to every other day, but not when I’m constantly wearing skirts, dresses, shorts and bathing suits.

This means I am always on the hunt for the best ways to keep my legs as smooth and nick-free for as long as possible.

Here’s what I have discovered.

Waxing works best.

Why do I say it works best?  Because it lasts the longest and requires the least amount of upkeep.  It is also the one that (at least for me) falls into the slightly painful category. Waxing my legs means I don’t have to shave for a few weeks, but it does mean I have to take a few Advil (recommended), close my eyes and hold my breath while it is happening.  (so this means I don’t do it all the time – I’m a wimp) If you wax on a regular basis, exfoliating at least once a week is a good idea – it makes it easier for the professionals to do their job and make your legs as smooth as possible.

Avoiding Cuts and Nicks.

The very first time I ever shaved my legs I left a huge cut in the center of my shin.  Quite simply, I pressed too hard.  Modern razors are sharp and do their job without any extra effort from me – provided I’m not layering too much shaving cream or shower gel.  All you really need is enough to make your legs slippery.  I often opt for my favorite shampoo or conditioner instead of purchasing a separate shaving cream.  Changing the blade every 5 uses is smart and also?  Don’t leave your razor in the shower where it is more likely to rust.

Beating Stubble and (yuck) Ingrown Hairs

Did you ever try Nair when you were young?  I did – and while it worked beautifully, the odor was simply too much for me.  This isn’t the case anymore, so you can always opt for a depilatory cream if you are looking to avoid the daily or almost daily shave AND you decrease the likely hood of ingrown hairs.  I have found Theraderm's Fruit Acid Exfoliant helps to exfoliate my skin and keep the ingrown hairs from looping in on themselves. Just a quick swipe with a few drops on a Gentle Action Application Pad after shavingand no ingrown hairs for me!
