When a facial procedure like lip injections becomes trendy, it can be tempting to just go for it. But you need to remember this is your body we’re talking about. You have to be informed before you start altering your appearance, not only for your health but also for vanity’s sake.

You don't want to end up on an episode of "Botched," do you?

1. It’s going to hurt.
While it definitely is not unbearable pain, a tiny needle is being stuck into your skin. If you are really scared of the pain, a little ice should do the trick.

2. Start off conservative.
You don’t to go for it only to end up with lips that look like someone punched you in mouth. Take it easy the first time to see how your body reacts.

3. If you are not yet 18, chill out.
Yes, we know Kylie Jenner got them. But that doesn’t mean she should have. Don’t have facial procedures done just because a trend-setter (AKA Kylie Jenner) does it. Make sure you are doing it for you and not for others.

4. Do not use something permanent.
Silicon can ruin you by causing granulomas that can come back even after being surgically removed. Not cool.

5. Make sure the doctor is board-certified.
Hopefully, this will eliminate the chance for #4 happening to you.

6. Have realistic expectations.
If you think getting lip injections (or any procedure for that matter) is going to change your quality of life -- you need to re-evaluate. Also, don’t go back for more month after month. Addiction to facial procedures is a real issue and the need to continually add more and more and more should be a red flag to the doctor that there is a body image issue.
