The process of shaving should not cause any pulling of hair. It should be almost effortless, and should leave behind a smooth surface, without irritation, or flaking the following day. Razor blades and shaving products have improved remarkably over the past few decades, but so many continue to suffer through the pain and irritation of the daily shave. That’s because the secret to an easier, gentle shave isn’t in the blade—it’s all in the way you prepare your skin before shaving, and how you treat it afterward.  We think the best way to shave is by treating your skin properly before and during the process.

First, begin by using a gentle facial cleanser, like Theraderm Cleansing Wash. This will soften hair and provide just the right lubrication needed for a smooth, comfortable shave. The softer a substance is, the easier it is to cut through smoothly. For example, imagine cutting dry spaghetti noodles. They are hard and brittle, and will shatter when cut. Now imagine immersing the spaghetti noodles in a pot of boiling water for 10 minutes and then trying to cut them… it’ll be so much easier!

When a substance is thoroughly wet inside and out, it becomes softer. That principle applies to hair as well. Hair is 98% keratin, long protein molecules arranged in bundles like a rope. The keratin molecule is difficult to penetrate with just water (fingernails are of similar keratin structure), but the bundles of keratin fibrils and filaments can be softened with a good wetting agent. This is what shaving creams and gels are designed to do, but it takes several minutes for the best ones to really soften and wet the hair thoroughly.

Cleansing Wash completely wets the keratin structure in hair and skin as it softens and cleans in mere seconds. It is also excellent for shampooing hair—better than commercial shampoos. After washing skin using one pump of Theraderm Cleansing Wash and warm water, there is a noticeable squeaky-clean feeling, much like after using glass cleaner on a mirror. Use in the shower on hair, face, and body.

After cleansing, shave using only a couple more drops of Theraderm Cleansing Wash or add some of your usual shaving cream.

Notice how the shaving process is extremely gentle, close, and smooth. Rinse, pat dry, and apply a small amount of Theraderm Fruit Acid Exfoliant evenly over shaved area. This lactic acid toner exfoliates the skin to prevent hair ends from becoming “trapped,” which can result in in-grown hair, rashes and razor burn.

Next, apply a green pea-size portion of Theraderm OPC Reparative Gel and spread evenly over the shaved area. This product moisturizes skin while providing super antioxidants to repair and rejuvenate skin, restoring it to a younger and healthier look.

A significant added benefit is that razor blades will last 5 – 6 times longer due to the ease of cutting softened hair after using Theraderm Cleansing Wash.
