Hallelujah! The weather is warm and it’s time to peel off some layers!  Your skin will be so happy to breathe again and catch a bit of Vitamin D, naturally!  Before you pull out those skin-baring styles, make sure your skin is dewy and glowing!

When the temperatures start to climb, we typically start to show a little more skin. Make sure your skin in the best shape it can be with these simple summer skincare tips!

1. Exfoliate - but don’t stop with your face.

Exfoliation is important because it removes dead, dulling skin debris to prevent congestion which helps improve hydration from toners and moisturizers. But most women stop with their faces. Our entire bodies from head to toe need additional hydration in the summer. We recommend Body Restoration Creme because it contains 6% lactic acid for a light exfoliation along with 7% superfine lanolin that hydrates the skin by restoring the natural lipid barrier. It’s a year-round must-have!

2. Hydrate your skin from the inside.

Warm temperatures and more time in the sun can lead to your skin looking dehydrated and (gasp!) older. Skin that is low in hydration sinks a little which causes fine lines and wrinkles to show! Drink at least 8 - 8 oz glasses of water per day to plump skin back up. That amount increases if you drink caffeinated or alcoholic beverages. You will love the way your skin looks if you follow this tip!

3. Become a sunscreen maniac.

While this may sound a little extreme, if you want great skin in your golden years, you’ve got to be consistent with sunscreen application. I became a stickler after the founder of Theraderm Clinical Skincare, Dr. James Beckman, explained to me what UV rays do to our skin. He asked me to picture a lit, cherry bomb firework being thrown into a swimming pool. He then proceeds to tell me that the underwater explosion is similar to what happens when a UVA ray penetrates the surface of the skin. It doesn’t simply penetrate in a straight line - it essentially explodes - destroying all the skin-firming collagen around EACH ray. NOW do you think sunscreen is important? Wear it. And re-apply often. We recommend Platinum Protection Facial Sunscreen with SPF 43+. It’s oil-free so it goes under your makeup really well, but stays in place if you choose to wear it solo. It’s also broad-spectrum so it protects against both aging UVA rays and burning/cancer-causing UVB rays.

4. Lighten up when it comes to moisturizers.

With heat and humidity in the air, you may no longer need that heavy moisturizer you’ve been slathering on every night. If your skin gets shiny during the day - that means it is time to lighten up! If you are really oily try OPC Reparative Serum. It contains hyaluronic acid that draws moisture to your skin leaving it hydrated without the oils.

5. Treat sun-damaged skin.

UV light causes photoaging in the form of brown spots, uneven skin tone, and wrinkles, whether you have burned your skin or not. When sunlight comes in contact with skin a cascade of damage results (including the stripping of barrier lipids) causing inflammation, production of reactive oxygen molecules that affect healthy cell growth, and stimulation of collagen destructing enzymes. Fruit Acid Exfoliant will remove these effects and stop incremental aging.
