You wash your face, you take off your makeup and you put on all your anti-aging products - you should be good to go, right? Well not so fast. Believe it or not, there are some lesser-known habits that may be sabotaging your attempts to have the best skin possible.

1. You don’t wash your pillowcase often enough.
While there is no magic number, you should try for at least once weekly. Facial oils, skin care products and even hair products build up on your pillowcase over time. If you aren’t washing them regularly, you are setting yourself up for possible breakouts.

2. You aren’t moisturizing.
After washing your face, you need to rehydrate your skin to help the moisture barrier stay intact. Even if you have oily skin, some type of moisturizer is needed to protect your delicate facial skin.

3. You apply lactic acid based products to wet skin.
Water on the surface of the skin will neutralize lactic acid rendering it basically useless. Make certain the surface of your skin is completely dry to get the most out of that prized ingredient.

4. You sleep on your side or stomach.
As crazy as it sounds, squishing your face onto your pillow for 8 hours every night (2,500 hours per year!) is actually causing your skin to wrinkle. Consider sleeping on your back to help prevent these avoidable facial wrinkles.

5. You don’t wash your face before hitting the sheets.
Your skin repairs itself at night, but if it is smothered with makeup, dirt and oils, there won’t be much repairing going on.

6. You don’t give products a chance.
If you are constantly changing products because you don’t see enough results, you probably just aren’t giving them a chance. The damage we do to our skin takes decades to appear. Giving a product one week to show results isn’t fair. In fact, most anti-aging products can take up to 12 weeks before you see results. Give them a chance!
