6 Tips for Overwashed Hands

Keeping Your Hands Clean & Soft

Washing your hands should always be a part of everyday life, but with COVID concerns, personal hygiene is on over-drive. Hand hygiene plays a vital role in keeping you from getting/spreading unwanted germs. However, with washing and sanitizing on repeat, hands become dry, rough and painful.

To protect and restore hands, here at Theraderm we recommend the following:

Watch the temperature of water

Use lukewarm or cool water even during the winter months to avoid over-drying.

Drink more water

The moisture your skin receives also comes from your body, so try to drink at least 64 oz a day for optimal skin health.

Give hands as much attention as your face

Hands show the effects of a dry environment more than any other part of the body, but often get the least love. Our NuPeel doubles as an exfoliator for dry, damaged hands. NuPeel is formulated with papaya enzymes, which naturally exfoliate skin, getting rid of the dry, cracked dermis that comes with over-washing and the use of harsh disinfecting wipes.

It also contains botanical extracts including aloe, pineapple, grape seed, green tea leaf and cucumber to help soothe the skin. Leave on for 2 minutes, rub and rinse off for softer hands.

Use mild soaps and detergents

Soaps that contain alcohol strip natural oils from your skin. Try a soap-free alternative like Theraderm Cleansing Wash, which will leave skin feeling smooth, soft and refreshed without drying.

Pat dry, don’t rub dry

After washing hands, gently pat your skin dry instead of rubbing your skin dry. By patting dry your skin will retain more moisture you are going to seal in when you moisturize.

Lock in moisture

Don’t forget to apply hand cream after each hand washing.

Extreme Dry Skin Therapy locks in hydration with super-fine grade lanolin to replace the skin's essential oils, allowing natural healing of dry, cracked skin.
