Do you cook with a cast iron skillet? You should!
I know this doesn’t DIRECTLY deal with beauty – but my thought process is that when we are healthy and feel great – we also look great! So – there – it DOES have something to do with beauty Yes – they are an old-fashioned stand-by, but they actually provide health benefits as well! I love, love, love my old skillet – wouldn’t trade it for anything – and when I found out it is much healthier than the non-stick versions – I was truly starstruck! Below I listed 3 reasons to use a cast iron skillet and I hope if you do not have one you will purchase one (although an inherited one is MUCH easier to use – you know – the whole ‘seasoned’ thing).

1. You will need MUCH less oil when using cast iron. Again – that whole “seasoned” thing. A well seasoned skillet renders itself virtually non-stick. And the best part is…..you don’t have to baby it! In fact – the more you use it – the better it gets! That’s the very reason I asked my grandmother to leave me hers in her will!
2. Cast iron is CHEMICAL FREE. This pretty much seals the deal for me! I don’t know about you – but I have read all the ills that go along with the convenience of non-stick. The repellent coating that keeps food from sticking contains PFC’s, a chemical that is directly linked to liver damage, cancer, developmental problems and get this…..even early menopause!
3. This one is almost a no-brainer! Cooking with cast iron adds, well, iron, to your food! It doesn’t leach chemicals – it leaches iron! And who couldn’t use a little iron in their life? Especially women – 10% of women are iron-deficient. So go forth and cook with an iron skillet!
Not only will you feel better – you will LOOK better too!
