Peptides are one of our favorite anti-aging ingredients! In fact, at Theraderm Clinical Skin Care, we use four different ones each with a different function.

What are Peptides?

When collagen breaks down, the peptides act as an alert system, informing our bodies to make more collagen to help replace what we lose naturally as we get older. Every year we age, collagen production decreases. This causes wrinkles, dehydration, discoloration, loss of firmness, and a dull complexion.

Peptides help rebuild collagen and preserve the skin’s youthful appearance. Using products with peptides directly on top of our skin acts as a fake-out, tricking our skin into thinking it's lost collagen and needs to make more. Kind of ingenious, right? Then, the carrier peptides work to help stabilize and deliver copper to certain enzymes, which are critical for functions like collagen and elastin synthesis, the growth of new blood vessels, and wound healing.

We understand that you can get peptides in products at Walmart, Target, Amazon (shudder!), or even from your sweet neighbor, but the difference is, we not only use premium ingredients, but we also use an amount of those active ingredients that are scientifically proven to work. We don't just throw in a teeny amount so we can include it on the ingredient list. Dr. Beckman still spends a lot of time researching the precise amount of our active ingredients necessary to ensure you get the results you deserve! Sure ours may cost a little more, but you've heard the old saying, "you get what you pay for..."

Peptides in Theraderm Clinical Skin Care Products

1. Matrixyl

This peptide is different than many of the other peptides used in skincare, because its results are long-lasting, not just for a mere hour after application. Its job is to specifically target and stimulate collagen synthesis and to repair damage to the skin. This function reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, leaving the skin firmer, smoother, and more youthful-looking.

2. Argireline

This peptide prevents muscle movement that leads to wrinkle formation. Argireline also promotes collagen production and optimizes the function of collagen, which both fight fine lines and improve moisture levels in the skin. Products with this peptide are sometimes called, Botox in a bottle.

3. Palmitoyl oligopeptides

This is a signal peptide that is particularly involved in repairing age-related skin damage and promoting dermal fibroblast migration, proliferation, and matrix macromolecular synthesis (eg, elastin, collagen, etc.). It provides support for the skin as it significantly increases collagen and hyaluronic acid in the skin.

4. Soluble keratin peptides

This peptide is exclusive to Theraderm for use in a skincare product. It is derived from a natural source of long-chain molecules that have been hydrolyzed. The short-chain template peptide structure has the same repeating amino acids found in human collagen. The "template" actually stimulates faster, natural repair of the collagen matrix in the skin that has been damaged.
