No matter the extreme measures you use to prevent aging, it’s going to happen.  It’s natural.

And sometimes the more you resist, the faster those changes seem to occur, don’t they?

But I’ve come up with a way to win this battle, when wrinkles burrow and shape shifts and weight won’t go away no matter what you try…

Change your point of view.

Embrace your age as a sign of L I F E !

The middle of my third grade year, my mother lost her battle to cancer.  She taught me so much through her life, but one of her most enduring lessons was a result of her much-too-soon death:

Life is a gift.

All of life is a gift.

I realize it’s cliche, said so many times we’re numb to its truth, but that doesn’t minimize its truth.

I need this reminder myself–

It started with Crow’s Feet.

Crow’s feet–what a wretched name!  Little wrinkles, furrowing from the outer corners of your eyes; for many, the first place age tells on itself.

So in the New Year’s spirit of changing my point of view, I’m claiming a new name for them:

Life Lines (ta da!!!)

Isn’t that much more palatable?  WiserPrettier?

I know some refer to them as “laugh lines,” but I like the fullness of “life lines.”

Life lines tell a story.

Life lines are traveled.

Life lines are e a r n e d .

I would love to hear the stories your life lines beg to tell.

What other words could use an updated point of view? Let’s take 2012 to shift our way of thinking and intentionally  see the beauty of aging.  Perspective is reality.
