As a busy mom, it’s sometimes hard to find the time for a proper shower! When I am able to carve out the time, let me tell you, I enjoy it! Lathering, exfoliating, shaving, deep conditioning, hot water neck massage…talk about indulging! Not only is it good for my skin’s health, it’s also good for my general well-being to take this time-out from life!

As you can imagine, not every shower can be so indulgent. Usually, it’s a speed wash and rinse. I let the conditioner sit in my hair while I swiftly-but-carefully shave. I love the days I get to skip washing my hair so it don’t have to blow it dry. Sad, but true.

Recently I’ve taken to loving a new kind of shower. Not the long, luxurious kind. Not the rushed-to-get-ready kind either…but one that is faster than a speed shower! I call it the cleansing shower. The primary reason isn’t what you think. The reason for the cleansing shower isn’t to clean your body, it’s to clean your mind!

Since I generally take my shower at night, I’ve found that taking a 2 minute cleansing shower each morning, with a favorite smelling “wake-me-up” body wash does three things to get my day started right:

  1. The scent stimulates my senses and wakes me up
  2. The warm water loosens my stiff muscles (um, am I showing my age here??)
  3. Intentionally thinking about washing away the stress and craziness of the day before prepares my mind for the new day

What could be better for one’s skin (and overall health) than to put the mind at ease?  It’s been a life changing mental overhaul for me!  You can benefit from it too!

Interject the cleansing shower into your day as soon as you wake up. Start tomorrow!  It doesn’t take long but it makes a huge impact on how you start your day.  The key is to visualize all the negative emotion you felt from the day before, and continue to hold on to, wash down the drain with the suds of your body wash.  Bye-bye stress. So long anger. Au revoir anxiety. It’s a new day and you can feel great!

The cleansing shower is just as important as the indulgent shower to me.  To begin each day with a fresh attitude and mentally charged for a brand new experience is nothing short of luxurious in my book!

What emotions do you need to let go down the drain?
