5 Foods That Hydrate Your Skin

We all know it’s important to drink plenty of water to keep our bodies hydrated, which has a direct effect on the health and appearance of our skin. And while it can be easy to fall short of the often recommended eight glasses per day, there are some foods that are both great for boosting your hydration and giving you essential vitamins and nutrients that your skin needs. Here are five foods that hydrate your body, and therefore, your skin:

Watermelon

Watermelon is made up of 92 percent water and contains essential electrolytes, like calcium, magnesium, potassium and sodium. A university study even showed that watermelon is comparable to popular sports drinks when it comes to hydrating and reducing muscle fatigue. It’s also rich in vitamin C and beta carotene, which will aid your skin’s protection from UV light.

Grapefruit

With only 30 calories and 90 percent water, grapefruit is another great one to reach for in the produce aisle.  Detoxifying phytonutrients can also be found in grapefruits, and may inhibit tumor formation of cancers.

Avocado

Comprised of 81 percent water, this powerhouse of a fruit replenishes potassium and contains healthy monounsaturated fats and fiber, which help your body maintain water levels. Additionally, avocados contain oleic acid, which has been found to improve fat levels in the body and help control diabetes and cholesterol.

Cucumbers

Cucumbers are a whopping 96 percent water and are a great source of electrolytes with few calories.  In addition, cucumbers are an excellent source of silica, a trace mineral that gives strength to connective tissue. The skin alone is a good source of vitamins A, C and folic acid, so don’t peel it.

NuPeel Natural Enzyme Peel is packed with botanical extracts like pineapple, aloe and cucumber to naturally exfoliate and give you glowing, radiant skin.

Celery

Celery, with 95 percent water, is considered to be a powerful electrolyte food. As few as two to three stalks of celery can replenish your sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, phosphorus, iron and zinc levels.

These are just a handful, but there are many thirst-quenching foods out there that can keep your body and your skin in great health. What are some of your favorites? Let us know in the comments below.
