Un-buffered Lactic Acid

Lactic Acid naturally occurs in the body and is present in every cell for metabolic functions so that there is zero toxicity. It is a natural alpha-hydroxy acid. Applied topically, it rejuvenates the skin by loosening the glue-like bonds between dry, dead skin cells in the outer layers. Once loosened, these cells can easily be shed from the skin’s surface. This process, called exfoliation, reveals a younger, fresher level of skin cells and stimulates new skin cell growth in the basal layer of the epidermis. While lactic acid is stimulating exfoliation, it also acts as a splendid humectant, attracting moisture to the skin’s surface and providing added hydration. The use of Lactic Acid as a part of a daily skin care regimen produces a brighter, smoother, suppler appearance with a decrease in fine lines. There is no risk of toxicity as seen with glycolic acid formulations and other alpha-hydroxy acids. Lactic Acid is most effective when it is un-buffered (un-neutralized) and at 10% concentration with a pH level formulated to maximize efficiency of the exfoliation process.
